| 6 Jul 2007 | Madison 'Binx' Binkley | Loading...OMG!! I love this picture! It's really fantastical with the lighting and such. It almost reminds me of the spider attacks in J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' when Bilbo had to use his sword to fend off the the evil fiends and rescue the dwarves! All in all, I LOVE it! Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks for all the love! Yeah... The Spiders of Middle-Earth are the BEST in any kind of fantasy." | |
| 8 Feb 2008 | Nathan Cel Medwin | Loading...This is so creepy!(in a good way) This sends tingles and shivers up my spine. This makes me want to puke...YAY! This is soo neat! You really captured some type of twisted evil in this picture. I think it’s because of all the gnarled textures...(shivers...IN A GOOD WAY! LOL) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks! Atlach-Nacha is never up to any good (at least not from a human standpoint) and I hope that his character comes through." | |
| 16 Apr 2008 | Amie Jayne Thackeray | Loading...wow! all the details (e.g. hairs on spiders legs) must have driven you CRAZY!!!!!! Richard Svensson replies: "Hi, Amy! Actually, I cheated doing the hairs. This is how it’s done (try it yourself): I covered the spider and drew the hairs out from the legs using masking fluid and a brush. Masking fluid is used when working with watercolours and is latex-based. When the fluid had dried I soaked up ink in an old toothbrush and drawing my index finger tip over the brush bristles I spattered the ink over the paper. When the ink was dry I could remove the masking fluid by rubbing my fingers over it and, presto, white hairs underneath. So the idea with using masking fluid is to protect areas of your painting/drawing that you want to keep bright and clean against a darker or cluttered background." | |
| 3 May 2008 | Scott | Loading...Does this have anything to do with the Hyperborea and the Hyborean Age created by Robert E. Howard in which he set his character Conan (sure everyone has heard of him)? That was back in the 1930’s. Many other Conan writers since. Richard Svensson replies: "Atlach-Nacha appears in Clark Ashton Smith’s Hyperborean story cycle. The unfortunate hero of "The Seven Geases" meets him (among other monstrosities). I don’t think Howard borrowed Atlach-Nacha, but he mentions (if I’m not mistaken) Smith’s Tsathoggua in some Conan story." | |
