Perca Fluviatilis bicephalus, or the two-headed perch is as rare a fish as you'll ever catch. It used to be found in lake Klaran, which has now withered down to an overgrown peat bog. But in its day it was the private fishing water of the trolls. Since the fish there had heads in both ends of its body it was twice as easy to catch and many a fisherman was lured to the spot. But the lake was guarded by a ghostly horse who bit the heads off any human who ventured there.

The fish was sculpted in Chavant clay, and cast in plastic resin using a silicone mold. It's painted with acrylic airbrush paints.

All I can think of when I see this is that fish the people hang on their walls, the one that sings. Hehe. Great work, though, the painting is very well done! And all those little scales, wow...

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks! Everyone seems to think it should sing. "

He looks so funny. I expect him to sing every minute. Too bad he can’t flap his tail. He looks very realistic. It’s a great piece of work but you only make good works.....

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks, Saskia; Very kind words 1"

Cool. Does it sing?

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Not yet. And I hope it never will."

Hahaha!! One of those horrible singing and moving fishes you mean? Hehe... 1

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Yep, that’s the one. Most people commenting here seems to think that I’ve done a new version of it. Stackars din kompis... 8"

Hehe: where is this fish going: to the right or to the left? There is a less fun thinking coming in my mind, something of an ecological thinking... 2

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Yes; I can see what you mean. But this folklorish fish is supposed to look like that. In those days (when folklore was part of everyday life) the question was if it was a creation by God or the Devil."

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Okidoki.

Men gud vad coolt.

Richard, this is so funny and realistic! Rather like an aquatic version of the Push-me-pull-u in Dr. Doolittle.I have tried sculpture a few times but am unusually bad at it. So I am just amazed by work like this.

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thank you! It was a bit of a bother to get this fish sculpture to work, but I’m quite happy with it. This two-headed type of fish supposedly existed in a lake not far from where my mom and her brothers grew up."

Well, if the anti-nuclear-power people were right, this kind of fish would be a common sight in the waters of Olkiluoto. 1 And just for the record: No, it should not sing.

:-) Richard Svensson replies: "Thanks for the no-singing vote! 1
Hopefully we’ll never see fish like this, at least not due to the makings of us humans!"
